Our winter season begins with a variety of community-oriented, whānau-friendly workshops and events to celebrate Māori new year. 24 – 25 June.

Friday 24 June

 

POTTERY

 

Matariki pottery class

10am – 12pm | TE PĀ MATAPAIA

$25. Suitable for adults and children over 6 with a parent.

 

Your instructor will show you how to make a plate or bowl using a mould and then decorate it with coloured slips and underglazes. Your piece will then be fired and glazed by the Wakatipu Pottery Group and be ready for collection at a later date.

ART

 

Kite-making workshops

10am - 2pm, drop-in | MAHI TAHI

$5. Suitable for children aged 5-12

DANCE

 

Open movement workshop

10am - 12pm | KAPA TAHI

$25. Suitable for ages 15+. No experience required.

 

Visiting artists Jahra Wasasala and Ooshcon (collectively known as CONJAH) present an open movement workshop. Through the movement methods of freestyle, visualisation, waving and free-writing, CONJAH facilitates warm and encouraging spaces to uplift participants through street dance methods.

Film screening and talk

Matariki bunting workshops

10am-12pm; 2-4pm | MAHI TAHI

$5. Suitable for ages 5+ with parents/caregivers for under 8’s.

 

Guided by Ngāi Tahu artist Emma Kitson, participants will create their own Matariki bunting to take home using simple relief printmaking techniques.
