Education Manager
Te Atamira is the vibrant cultural andartistic heartbeat of the Queenstown Lakes District, committed to nurturing creativity in everyone, every day. As we expand our focus from youth education to lifelong learning, the Education Manager will play a pivotal role in leading this strategic evolution. This is a rare opportunity to shape an inclusive and future-focused arts education programmein one of Aotearoa New Zealand’s most dynamic regions.
Key responsibilities
Strategic leadership and collaboration
- Lead the development and implementation of Te Atamira’s education strategy with a focus on lifelong learning.
- Collaborate closely with the Director to ensure education andpublic programmes are embedded into the curatorial calendar at least 6- 12 months in advance.
- Support a culture of manaakitanga, accessibility, and inclusion across all learning environments.
Programme development and delivery
- Design, trial, and deliver a range of educational programmes across age groups: tamariki, rangatahi, adults, and seniors.
- Innovate new public programmes and outreach models, including afterschool classes, holiday workshops, artist capability sessions, and events for underserved communities.
- Develop a “menu” of creative experiences for schools and corporate/community groups.
- Create culturally responsive and inclusive offerings, particularly for Māori, disabled, and ethnically diverse communities.
People and partnership management
- Lead and support a team of tutors, casual staff, andfacilitators, ensuring alignment with Te Atamira’s values.
- Deliver monthly support and development sessions for educators, aligned with Te Atamira’s cultural and community values.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with external partners including schools, community organisations, artists, and funders.
Operational and financial oversight
- Ensure programmes are delivered sustainably, meeting agreed KPIs and within budget.
- Monitor programme impact, including data collection, evaluation, and reporting to leadership.
- Support funding applications and donor relationships related to education initiatives.
- Manage efficient use of space and mitigate operational risks, including staffing and supply needs.

- Deep commitment to access, inclusion, and community-led practice.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organisational and project management abilities.
- Comfortable using data, feedback, and evaluation tools for continuous improvement.
Qualifications and experience
- 3-5+ years’ experience in arts, cultural, or education leadership roles.
- Proven ability to develop and deliver successful public education programmes.
- Experience managing teams and collaborating across departments.
- Understanding of Aotearoa’s cultural landscape, including bicultural practice and Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles.
- Familiarity with curriculum design, programme evaluation, and funding processes.
Desirable
- Background in visual or performing arts.
- Knowledge of the Queenstown Lakes District community and its evolving needs.
- Experience working with underrepresented or underserved groups.
- Familiarity with the New Zealand Curriculum or Experiences Outside the Classroom (ELC).
