Following a sold-out season at the Auckland International Film Festival, TOITŪ: Visual Sovereignty comes to Tāhuna Queenstown.
Join us for a screening of this powerful film - the directorial debut from Academy Award-nominated producer Chelsea Winstanley ONZM - followed by an in-person Q&A with Chelsea.
The film offers an extraordinary behind-the-scenes look at Nigel Borell’s groundbreaking Māori art exhibition, Toi Tū Toi Ora: Contemporary Māori Art - the largest in Aotearoa New Zealand’s history. Capturing both its record-breaking success and the tensions that arise when Indigenous sovereignty challenges institutional power, TOITŪ: Visual Sovereignty is a profound portrait of cultural resilience and creative authorship.
Featuring the voices and works of celebrated artists including Shane Cotton, Emily Karaka, Taika Waititi, Brett Graham, Ngahina Hohaia, the Mataaho Collective, and Reuben Paterson, this film is not to be missed.
