Saturday Arts Social is a multi-arts programme and morning tea designed for our 60+ community. We gather every Saturday morning for a broad programme of events including concerts, art workshops, dance/movement classes and artist talks. Next event: Saturday 4 July, 10:30am.
Upcoming Programmes:
4 July: Canciones para Compartir / Songs to Share with Pauli
Come and join Pauli in this intimate session where she'll share the songs that shaped her childhood (which, depending on who you ask, was only a few years ago), her teen years (survived, somehow), and the songs that were shaping her life before she arrived in New Zealand eight years ago. Immerse yourself in Latin American music and hear a few stories from the colourful life of this Chilean actor, singer, and librarian.
- About your facilitator: Pauli studied theatre at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, where they honed their craft before taking their talents across the country, performing in theatre for 4 years. Music has been in their soul since the age of 6, from choir days in school to private lessons after university. After a long pause from performing in New Zealand, Pauli has returned to the stage, answering the call of their heart. With passion and excitement, they’re thrilled to share their story and music with you.
11 July: Stories That Stay: Finding the Story Only You Can Tell (with Julian Noel)
Join storyteller and performer Julian Noel for an engaging exploration of what makes a story memorable. Through practical insights, examples, and inspiration, you'll discover how to uncover compelling stories, find your authentic voice, and connect with an audience. Whether you're a complete beginner, a seasoned storyteller, or simply love listening to a good yarn, this relaxed and interactive session will help you see storytelling in a fresh new way.
18 July: The Stories That Made Us: Sharing the Stories That Shape Us (with Julian Noel)
This session offers a welcoming space to share and celebrate the stories that have shaped our lives. Up to four participants will have the opportunity to tell a personal story (approximately 5–7 minutes), with gentle guidance and encouragement from Julian. Sharing is entirely optional, and listening is equally valued. Come along to connect, reflect, laugh, and discover the richness of the experiences that make our community unique.
27 July: Air Dry Clay Midwinter Christmas Ornaments (with Svetlana Mickell)
In this session, artist Svetlana Mickell (originally from Russia, now proud to call New Zealand home) will guide you through the playful process of making simple Christmas ornaments using air dry clay. Create a beautiful brooch or a hanging decoration for your tree – whatever your imagination dreams up. No experience needed, just bring your sense of colour and fun. Come along and enjoy a relaxed, crafty morning!
