Saturday Arts Social is a multi-arts programme and morning tea designed for our 60+ community. We gather every Saturday morning for a broad programme of events including concerts, art workshops, dance/movement classes and artist talks. Next event: Saturday July 11, 10:30am.

11 July: Stories That Stay: Finding the Story Only You Can Tell with Julian Noel
Join storyteller and performer Julian Noel for an engaging exploration of what makes a story memorable. Through practical insights, examples, and inspiration, you'll discover how to uncover compelling stories, find your authentic voice, and connect with an audience. Whether you're a complete beginner, a seasoned storyteller, or simply love listening to a good yarn, this relaxed and interactive session will help you see storytelling in a fresh new way.
- About your facilitator: Julian Noel (Ngāti Whātua, Ngāpuhi) hails from the Hokianga, Kaikohe, and Dargaville region and now calls Tāhuna (Queenstown) home. A graduate of Melbourne's prestigious VCA School of Drama, Julian has worked as an actor, storyteller, entrepreneur, and speaker for more than four decades.His career has taken him from stage, television, and film to founding successful businesses, coaching leaders and entrepreneurs, and facilitating more than 400 workshops, events, and gatherings across 15 countries. Today, he focuses on writing, performance, and helping people uncover and share the stories that matter most. Known for his warmth, humour, and ability to create genuine connection, Julian brings a wealth of experience in storytelling, public speaking, performance, and creative leadership. His recent one-man play, BONES, explores family, identity, ancestry, and belonging through the power of story.
18 July: The Stories That Made Us: Sharing the Stories That Shape Us (with Julian Noel)
This session offers a welcoming space to share and celebrate the stories that have shaped our lives. Up to four participants will have the opportunity to tell a personal story (approximately 5–7 minutes), with gentle guidance and encouragement from Julian. Sharing is entirely optional, and listening is equally valued. Come along to connect, reflect, laugh, and discover the richness of the experiences that make our community unique.
27 July: Air Dry Clay Midwinter Christmas Ornaments (with Svetlana Mickell)
In this session, artist Svetlana Mickell (originally from Russia, now proud to call New Zealand home) will guide you through the playful process of making simple Christmas ornaments using air dry clay. Create a beautiful brooch or a hanging decoration for your tree – whatever your imagination dreams up. No experience needed, just bring your sense of colour and fun. Come along and enjoy a relaxed, crafty morning!
