Join Queenstown Arts Society for guided life portrait sessions with a live model. Build confidence, master proportions, capture true likeness, and develop your own expressive portrait style in a supportive environment. Wednesdays 4 March - 1 April, 6pm - 7:30pm.

Designed to strengthen your portrait drawing skills in a supportive, guided environment. Each 90-minute session features a live model and personalised instruction to help you achieve accurate proportions, capture likeness and develop your own unique style in portraiture. Bring your own drawing materials.

Who Are These Classes For?

Open to all skill levels. From beginners wanting to learn the foundations of portrait drawing to experienced artists looking to refine their technique. No Experience Necessary. Beginners Welcome.

Meet the Tutor:

Kasia Hebda is a professional artist, art conservator and experienced Life Drawing tutor with QAS. Passionate about teaching, she provides structured guidance and individualized support to help students develop confidence, refine their artistic skills and nurture their unique style.

This class series is designed to help you establish or develop your drawing practice. Please bring your sketchbook and preferred dry materials.

What to Bring - Recommended materials:

  • A4-A3+ sketchbook, visual diary or digital tablet
  • Pencils, coloured pencils, conte and graphite sticks, markers (no soft charcoal)
  • Erasers (kneadable or soft)
  • Bulldog clips
  • Limited easels available — please arrive early to allow setup time

Drawing room etiquette and model protocol:

  • No smartphones or photographic equipment are allowed in life classes.
  • Students are expected to arrive minimum 10 minutes early so they can set up and be ready to start on time
  • If a life model is working, students and visitors will knock and wait outside until they are allowed in.
  • Models will have preference over room temperature.
  • Students must be conscious of the model's personal space and not approach the model without permission.
  • The privacy of the model is to be always maintained both in the room and outside the room.

Learners under 18:

Please note that the model will be robed during these classes. We welcome young learners aged 15 and above.
