Ever wondered how artists like Rembrandt and Velázquez were taught to draw? Learn classical drawing in the style of the Old Masters using the Charles Bargue method. Led by Robyn Bardas, the artist behind our current exhibition, 'Bone is Bone'. This workshop runs from 1pm-4pm.
Led by Robyn Bardas, who has studied classical drawing at the Florence Academy of Art and the Barcelona Academy of Art, this workshop follows the way drawing was traditionally taught, with a focus on accuracy, proportion, and careful observation.
Participants will work through guided drawing exercises to develop measurement, proportion, and observational skills, with the opportunity to complete a focused study during the session.
Designed for those wanting to build or refine technical drawing skills through a structured, process-driven approach. Participants will leave with practical techniques they can continue using in their own drawing practice. Join us for a three-hour guided journey in observational drawing, with a short break. Limited spaces available.
We will provide materials, however if you would you like to bring your own, you are more than welcome to do so. If you do bring your own gear, you will need:
- A few sheets of plain fine tooth paper (A4–A3)
- A few sheets of plain A4 copy paper
- A drawing board (or a firm surface to tape your paper onto)
- Low tack masking tape
- Kneadable eraser
- HB and H pencils (wooden, not mechanical)
About your tutor, Robyn Bardas (MFA)
Robyn Bardas is a Hāwea Flat-based artist whose practice is rooted in connectedness and the sublime in nature. Her long contemporary landscapes of the last ten years have given way to classical focused representational studies. Her recent work brings together sculpture, video, and text, shaped by ongoing classical study and close observation of the natural world.
