An AWE+ Free Performance showcasing our 2026 Emerging Artists and composer, this programme traces lines of friendship, place and musical inheritance. This free showcase runs from 4:45 - 5:30pm.
Mozart quietly writes under Michael Haydn's name so his ailing friend can fulfil a commission. AWE 2026 Emerging Composer Rafael Hosking’s The shape of upper branches, July 2026 for string quartet, echoes the riroriro's song as it shifts from region to region across Aotearoa. Ravel playfully stretches the serenade, while Korngold's wartime melody, later the theme of his Piano Quintet's slow movement heard at AWE 2026's closing concert, reflects on separation and enduring connection. Fifteen-year-old Beethoven closes with an early glimpse of a voice already reshaping the traditions it inherited.
