“All of us were born creative. Imagination is trained through the arts and it allows us to imagine better futures.”

Professor Peter O’Connor, Director - Centre for Arts and Social Transformation, University of Auckland

The Arts in Schools Programme has been designed to give primary school students a chance to be involved in the visual arts by learning a creative practice under the tuition of a professional local artist. The pieces being exhibited here were created by the talented tamariki at Remarkables Primary School.

Across the course of a week, students in Years 5 to 8 received 10 hours of tuition within their preferred art medium of either painting, printmaking, photography or sculpture. An opportunity for creative and critical thinking to flourish!

We would like to acknowledge all the talented, local artists involved for their hard work and dedication to the programme:

Kym Beaton - Painting

Lisa Duncan - Painting

Patrick Fallon - Photography

Fiona Garlick - Sculpture

Liz Hawker - Printmaking

Sue Marshall - Printmaking

Tony O’Keefe - Sculpture

Marion Vialade - Printmaking

Grant Whibley - Painting

Three Lakes Cultural Trust

The purpose of the Trust is to support and encourage arts and culture in ways that enrich the quality of life of residents and that contribute to the cultural, social and economic vitality and resilience of the Queenstown Lakes District.

The Arts in Schools Programme was designed to enable growth, learning and access to the arts. To date, the programme has been delivered to 700 students across the Queenstown Lakes District. Alongside its other projects, tThe Trust remains committed to further developing the Arts in School programme so that in time, it will be accessible to all schools in the District

The Arts in Schools Programme would not have been possible without the generous support from our partners:
