Experiment with different materials\, styles\, and processes to develop artistic skills and create unique artworks. With opportunities to extend ideas and techniques\, students of all experience levels can work at their own pace and follow their creativity. Perfect for anyone who loves to experiment\, make\, and discover where their ideas can take them!\n\n\n\n\nWednesdays | Clay Skills: Sgraffito‍\nIntermediate | Year 1 – Year 8\n\nEver wanted to carve your own stories into clay? This term\, we’re going beyond the basics! In this 1.5-hour weekly workshop\, young potters will master the sgraffito technique. The projects will be different to the sgraffito projects completed last term. Once the clay is “leather-hard\,” we’ll use professional carving tools to scratch away patterns\, revealing positive and negative space to create stunning high-contrast art. As this this term is developing higher skills with sgraffito\, we ask that participants have ideally attended a clay session before and have a basic understanding of clay building techniques.\n\n\n\n\nThursdays | Creative Studio‍\nAll Levels | New Entrants – Year 2\n\nUnleash your inner artist in this fun and exploratory creative class focused on foundation skills for younger tamariki! Dawn will share her expertise\, along with captivating stories from her conservation work as she expands your repertoire of bird song knowledge\, explores the seasonality and diurnal variability of birds\, and even the meaning in their songs and calls. Birding requires mindful patience\, and a willingness to expect the unexpected. We’ll learn about some of the Apps that can accelerate our ability to recognise and learn bird calls. You’ll gain new insights into the world as you HEAR it and you may gain inspiration for your next creative endeavour! \n\nAbout your facilitator: Dawn Palmer is a local ecologist with an ever-growing passion for birding.  Dawn has worked with birds in Australia\, the Sierra Nevada mountains and here in the Whakatipu where she has lived and worked as an ecologist for most of her life.  Sharing her passion and improving Nature Literacy is one of her greatest joys.  Nature is the palette that Dawn works with primarily through restoration projects of varying sizes and birds provide an amazing soundtrack for her life… although\, she has partaken in a few of Margaret’s Beginner Singing workshops!\n\n‍ \n10 October: Collaborative Creation – Floral Painting workshop (with Meg Cloete) \nIn this session\, participants will work together to create a collaborative piece of Art. Using mixed media—pencils\, pastels and paints—participants will be guided and supported while drawing inspiration from flowers and nature. This workshop is a fun\, relaxing way to connect with others and appreciate the beauty and simplicity of nature. \n\nAbout your facilitator: Meg is an illustrator and Primary School teacher based in rural Southland. Meg specializes in bringing joy to communities with giant\, fun\, doodle-style interactive murals where participants are invited to collaborate and leave their mark. She has spent the last two years hosting these murals at various events in Southland and Central Otago\, as well as painting murals for Schools. Meg is a passionate teacher who loves to encourage others to be brave and confident in their creativity.\n\n\n  \n17 October: Encounter the Wonder of Brass Instruments – from trumpet to tuba! \nEncounter the wonder of brass instruments\, from trumpet to tuba! Session led by Turn up the Music School Director Emma Wilson. After a performance and demonstration to explain the mechanics of these fascinating instruments (accompanied by the always-wonderful Mark Wilson)\, you will get the chance to have a hands-on experience of your own. Making a sound from a hoseaphone is a unique and physically involving exercise! Come ready to try something new\, and have a laugh making some randomly fun sounds. \n  \n24 October: Dance and More (with Nina Hermanns from ProDance NZ) \nThe dance session is suitable for mature women and men who love to move\, laugh and socialise. The class is held in a welcoming and safe environment suitable for everyone. The choreographies are tailored to be inclusive and accommodating to varying mobility levels\, promoting physical activity\, mental challenges and social engagement. The atmosphere is festive and supportive\, fostering a sense of community and camaraderie among participants. \n\nAbout your facilitator: My name is Nina Hermanns and I am a professional dance teacher\, choreographer and dancer based in Wanaka\, New Zealand. I possess a rich background of formal dance education studies (Bachelor Degree in Dance in Education\, ArtEZ University of the Arts\, Arnhem\, Netherlands). I have qualifications in Contemporary\, Jazz and Ballet and over 20 years of experience in the art of dance. I have choreographed and performed as a dancer on stages in Europe\, North and Central America\, Asia and Australasia and taught dance in Europe\, the USA and the Caribbean. My commitment to excellence is reflected in my teaching approach where each student learns under my personal guidance.\n\n  \n31 October: Everything But the Medicine\, a one woman show by Lucy O’Hagan \nGP Lucy O’Hagan’s one woman show takes you inside a morning of general practice. Lucy plays 32 different characters in 55 minutes in a performance that is both funny and poignant. Author of Everything But the Medicine: A Doctor’s tale (longlisted for the Ockham NZ Book Awards)\, all about what it is like to be the GP sitting alongside human stories. Lucy has been a GP for over 30 years\, including 20 years at Aspiring Medical Centre in Wānaka. DESCRIPTION:13 October: Drawing the Land – Finding your Own Way with Priscilla Claire \nJoin contemporary landscape artist Priscilla Clare for a fun and relaxed 90-minute drawing class\, where you’ll explore the simple sketching practice at the heart of her creative process. We’ll start with the basics of landscape drawing looking at shape\, composition and how to capture the feeling of a place. From there\, Priscilla will show you playful ways to bring your landscape to life with colour\, texture and imagination. No drawing experience is needed! Working with just paper and coloured pencils\, you’ll experiment\, have fun and discover how simple marks and colour can turn into a lively\, expressive landscape drawing. \n‍ \nAbout your Facilitator: Priscilla Clare is a contemporary landscape artist based in  Queenstown\, New Zealand. She creates vibrant paintings inspired by the  country’s mountains\, lakes\, and forests\, reimagining familiar landscapes as  dreamlike environments where colour\, light\, and atmosphere become as  important as geography.    She has created art her whole life but began oil painting in 2016 after she  moved to New Zealand. Time spent outdoors is central to her process. Whether  hiking or cycling through the landscapes surrounding her home\, she gathers  sketches\, photographs\, and impressions that inform her studio practice. \n‍ \nDetails: Please bring a sketchbook\, pencil and any other materials you’d like to use. Meg is a passionate teacher who loves to encourage others to be brave and confident in their creativity.\n\n\n  \n17 October: Encounter the Wonder of Brass Instruments – from trumpet to tuba! \nEncounter the wonder of brass instruments\, from trumpet to tuba! After a performance and demonstration to explain the mechanics of these fascinating instruments (accompanied by the always-wonderful Mark Wilson)\, you will get the chance to have a hands-on experience of your own. Making a sound from a hoseaphone is a unique and physically involving exercise! Lucy has been a GP for over 30 years\, including 20 years at Aspiring Medical Centre in Wānaka. This term\, we’re going beyond the basics! In this 1.5-hour weekly workshop\, young potters will master the sgraffito technique. The projects will be different to the sgraffito projects completed last term. Once the clay is “leather-hard\,” we’ll use professional carving tools to scratch away patterns\, revealing positive and negative space to create stunning high-contrast art. DESCRIPTION:From clay and making to creative exploration\, each session is designed to encourage curiosity\, confidence and plenty of imagination. Here’s the classes on offer in Term 4: \n\nTuesdays | Creative Studio‍\nAll Levels | Year 3 – Year 8\n\n\nUnleash your inner artist in this fun and exploratory creative class focused on developing skills for older tamariki! Young creatives will build confidence as they explore drawing\, painting\, mixed media\, and a variety of hands-on artmaking techniques. Experiment with different materials\, styles\, and processes to develop artistic skills and create unique artworks. With opportunities to extend ideas and techniques\, students of all experience levels can work at their own pace and follow their creativity. Perfect for anyone who loves to experiment\, make\, and discover where their ideas can take them!\n\n\n\n\nWednesdays | Clay Skills: Sgraffito‍\nIntermediate | Year 1 – Year 8\n\nEver wanted to carve your own stories into clay? This term\, we’re going beyond the basics! In this 1.5-hour weekly workshop\, young potters will master the sgraffito technique. The projects will be different to the sgraffito projects completed last term. Once the clay is “leather-hard\,” we’ll use professional carving tools to scratch away patterns\, revealing positive and negative space to create stunning high-contrast art. As this this term is developing higher skills with sgraffito\, we ask that participants have ideally attended a clay session before and have a basic understanding of clay building techniques.\n\n\n\n\nThursdays | Creative Studio‍\nAll Levels | New Entrants – Year 2\n\nUnleash your inner artist in this fun and exploratory creative class focused on foundation skills for younger tamariki! Young creatives will build confidence as they explore drawing\, painting\, mixed media\, and a variety of hands-on artmaking techniques. Experiment with different materials\, styles\, and processes to develop artistic skills and create unique artworks. With opportunities to extend ideas and techniques\, students of all experience levels can work at their own pace and follow their creativity. Perfect for anyone who loves to experiment\, make\, and discover where their ideas can take them!\n\n\n\n‍ \nNew to the programme? Come and have a go! If you’re not sure if the Afterschool Programme is right for your tamariki\, you can try a Taster Session during the first week of Term\, with the classes happening on 13–15 October. This is a chance to meet our Education Team\, get stuck into a creative session and see what we’re all about – before committing to the full term. There is an option for you to select both the taster and the full term if you wish to attend both. \nEverything is provided\, so all your tamariki need to bring is their imagination and a willingness to get creative.

Created by members our hapori\, this waiata weaves together the histories\, stories\, and lived experiences of the people who call the Whakatipu region home. Led by members of Te Hā o Tāhuna\, this welcoming session invites everyone to learn and share in a mōteatea that represents our place and community. \n\nAbout your facilitator: Te Hā o Tāhuna is a local te reo Māori initiative where whānau come together to learn\, practise\, and engage in te reo Māori. Through creating opportunities for connection\, learning and shared experience\, the initiative supports the growth and everyday use of te reo Māori within whānau and the wider hapori.\n\n\n\n  \n_______________ \n‍ \nAbout Community Sing: Community Sing is an open\, drop-in choir for everyone in the community. DESCRIPTION:3 October: Bird Song of the Whakatipu (with ecologist Dawn Palmer) \nJoin ecologist and conservation volunteer Dawn Palmer for a fascinating session on identifying bird calls. Dawn will share her expertise\, along with captivating stories from her conservation work as she expands your repertoire of bird song knowledge\, explores the seasonality and diurnal variability of birds\, and even the meaning in their songs and calls. Birding requires mindful patience\, and a willingness to expect the unexpected. We’ll learn about some of the Apps that can accelerate our ability to recognise and learn bird calls. You’ll gain new insights into the world as you HEAR it and you may gain inspiration for your next creative endeavour! \n\nAbout your facilitator: Dawn Palmer is a local ecologist with an ever-growing passion for birding.  Dawn has worked with birds in Australia\, the Sierra Nevada mountains and here in the Whakatipu where she has lived and worked as an ecologist for most of her life.  Sharing her passion and improving Nature Literacy is one of her greatest joys.  Nature is the palette that Dawn works with primarily through restoration projects of varying sizes and birds provide an amazing soundtrack for her life… although\, she has partaken in a few of Margaret’s Beginner Singing workshops!\n\n‍ \n10 October: Collaborative Creation – Floral Painting workshop (with Meg Cloete) \nIn this session\, participants will work together to create a collaborative piece of Art. Using mixed media—pencils\, pastels and paints—participants will be guided and supported while drawing inspiration from flowers and nature. This workshop is a fun\, relaxing way to connect with others and appreciate the beauty and simplicity of nature. \n\nAbout your facilitator: Meg is an illustrator and Primary School teacher based in rural Southland. Meg specializes in bringing joy to communities with giant\, fun\, doodle-style interactive murals where participants are invited to collaborate and leave their mark. She has spent the last two years hosting these murals at various events in Southland and Central Otago\, as well as painting murals for Schools. Meg is a passionate teacher who loves to encourage others to be brave and confident in their creativity.\n\n\n  \n17 October: Encounter the Wonder of Brass Instruments – from trumpet to tuba! \nEncounter the wonder of brass instruments\, from trumpet to tuba! Session led by Turn up the Music School Director Emma Wilson. After a performance and demonstration to explain the mechanics of these fascinating instruments (accompanied by the always-wonderful Mark Wilson)\, you will get the chance to have a hands-on experience of your own. Making a sound from a hoseaphone is a unique and physically involving exercise! Come ready to try something new\, and have a laugh making some randomly fun sounds. \n  \n24 October: Dance and More (with Nina Hermanns from ProDance NZ) \nThe dance session is suitable for mature women and men who love to move\, laugh and socialise. The class is held in a welcoming and safe environment suitable for everyone. The choreographies are tailored to be inclusive and accommodating to varying mobility levels\, promoting physical activity\, mental challenges and social engagement. The atmosphere is festive and supportive\, fostering a sense of community and camaraderie among participants. \n\nAbout your facilitator: My name is Nina Hermanns and I am a professional dance teacher\, choreographer and dancer based in Wanaka\, New Zealand. I possess a rich background of formal dance education studies (Bachelor Degree in Dance in Education\, ArtEZ University of the Arts\, Arnhem\, Netherlands). I have qualifications in Contemporary\, Jazz and Ballet and over 20 years of experience in the art of dance. I have choreographed and performed as a dancer on stages in Europe\, North and Central America\, Asia and Australasia and taught dance in Europe\, the USA and the Caribbean. I pride myself on delivering the highest quality dance education to my students. My commitment to excellence is reflected in my teaching approach where each student learns under my personal guidance.\n\n  \n31 October: Everything But the Medicine\, a one woman show by Lucy O’Hagan \nGP Lucy O’Hagan’s one woman show takes you inside a morning of general practice. Lucy plays 32 different characters in 55 minutes in a performance that is both funny and poignant. Author of Everything But the Medicine: A Doctor’s tale (longlisted for the Ockham NZ Book Awards)\, all about what it is like to be the GP sitting alongside human stories. Lucy has been a GP for over 30 years\, including 20 years at Aspiring Medical Centre in Wānaka. She has most recently worked for a needle exchange clinic and for Ngati Toa Rangatira at Oratoa Cannons Creek\, Porirua. \n\n‍ \n_______________ \n‍ \nDrop-in sessions\, registrations are not required.
